This is a big one.
The Shock Technique is a MUST in every Linebacker’s toolbox.
If you need to take on a blocker, this is your best option.
Let’s get right into it.
Footwork
It all starts with the FEET.
You should have a good powerful base as you approach the blocker.
The big coaching point:
Step with the NEAR FOOT as you prepare to strike.
This will help you generate the power you need to defeat the block.

Hand Placement
The Shock Technique involves violent HANDS.
Great hand position is key.
The near hand should strike the midline of the blocker.
The outside hand should strike either the shoulder or the near pec.
Work half the blocker if you want to win the battle.

Coach the Eyes
EYE PLACEMENT is also key.
As you approach and strike the blocker, your eyes should be on the blocker.
Once you make contact, however, your eyes must snap to the ball carrier.
Don’t look OVER the blocker, look AROUND the blocker.
This will help you keep a low pad level.

Finish
Finally, you need to DISENGAGE.
Finish with a Rip or an Arm Over to clear the blocker.
Bring your feet past the blocker’s hips.
Stack the blocker and replace their position.
Then go make the tackle.

Final Thoughts
These skills need to be developed in practice.
On game day, everything must be automatic.
Master the Shock Technique on your path to becoming unblockable.
