Block Destruction TOOLBOX
Why build it?
Let’s face it…
Not all blocks look the same.
Throughout the course of a game, a Linebacker might:
Meet an Offensive Guard at the Line of Scrimmage.
Face a Tight End attempting a Down Block.
Meet a blocker out in the open field.
Each of these blocks requires a different type of Block Destruction move.
Will your Linebackers be prepared for each one?
Here are some thoughts on how to get them ready:
First, a quick note:
If you’re a coach…
And you’ve ever thought about turning your knowledge into an online audience…

Now, back to today’s article…
The Moves
It starts with a step-by-step teaching of each move.
You’ll want your players to have at least one POWER MOVE and one SPEED MOVE ready.
Build them from the ground up.
Every step, every hand position, every eye placement.
Walk before you run.
The Plan
Perfecting each move is just the beginning.
Linebackers then need to learn when and why to use each move.
A complete toolbox means nothing…
If you use the wrong tool at the wrong time.
The Preparation
Finally, you need to prepare the Linebackers for game situations.
In a game, a Linebacker doesn’t have time to stop and think about which move to use.
It needs to be automatic.
Train this skill by creating dynamic pictures in practice.
Force the Linebackers to react quickly to the different types of blocks…
And to use the appropriate move each time.
This will translate to game day.
